Summary of Offer

Power Technology Unlimited is seeking through this proposal to sell outright its patented technologies to a manufacturer which potentially has distribution channels throughout North America and/or overseas. Ideally, these channels should target:

  • Nationwide retail chains such as Home Depot, OSH, and Sears,
  • Smaller regional chains such as Yardbird's in California
  • Construction unions in all fields mentioned above which will encourage its members to use these injury-preventing devices
  • Building contractors: residential, commercial and structural
  • State/provincial and federal governments with authority for:

    • road maintenance and construction
    • infrastructure projects
    • emergency services (Red Cross, Search and Rescue, ambulance companies, etc.)
    • forestry and parks
    • agriculture
    • military affairs (all branches)

  • Industry-specific companies: chemical manufacturing, auto repair, transport and moving, national and international letter and package delivery, etc.
  • Retail operations such as: plant nurseries, produce and groceries, hardware stores, equipment rental, etc.

In addition, the candidate manufacturer/distributor must have the capability to manufacture these products on a large scale to meet the projected large demand both domestically and internationally. PTU will consider a manufacturer whose distribution channels do not cover all these markets, assuming that this manufacturer is content with developing sales on a regional basis and is open to our seeking other means of capturing overseas markets, particularly in Europe, Japan, Korea, Taiwan, Singapore, Australia and New Zealand.

Competitive Analysis

The market for PowerBarrow and PowerTrakker products far exceeds traditional applications; nothing currently available in the market can compare in cost and the limitless applications due to their readily interchangeable attachments. Consequently, these innovations have the capability to generate explosive sales. These revolutionary equipment lines will also open the door to new and larger groups of users such as women, the elderly and do-it-yourselfers.

A. Competing Products

The Invention Submission Corporation (ISC), a privately owned company headquartered in Columbus, Ohio with branches in Canada, the UK and Australia, has conducted an in-depth study of the US and world marketplaces to investigate whether any competitive products to the PowerBarrow exist. No investigation, however, can be guaranteed even with a thorough patent search.

Nevertheless, to the best of Auerbach & Jones' knowledge, no competitive products exist. A Patent Office search failed to uncover comparable or similar products. The ISC conducts regular reviews of nationwide equipment and related catalogs and has found no similar products on the market or under development.

B. PowerBarrow vs. Wheelbarrow

The standard wheelbarrow as used every day by professional contractors and homeowners is awkward to transport heavy loads from one place to another on a job site. Wheelbarrows are commonly used to move loads of earth, brick, stone, mortar, concrete, cement, mud, lumber, manure, hay, and other materials in the fields of construction, agriculture, horticulture, etc. Builders, homeowners, farmers and ranchers have come to rely on the wheelbarrow as the tool of choice in completing their projects.

Although the basic design of the wheelbarrow has remained unchanged for many years, this does not mean that this fundamental tool is problem-free. One of its main difficulties is that the load is limited by the strength of the individual user. Also, since heavy loads are concentrated on the front wheel, the wheelbarrow becomes prone to sticking in soft ground.

Struggling with this type of difficulty can lead to severe long-term or lifetime back problems. This problem is compounded when an individual uses the wheelbarrow on a slopped surface or rugged terrain. With its three wheel concept and power plant, the PowerBarrow is designed to minimize these problems and increase productivity by saving both time and an individual's strength.

The electric and gas powered engines provide users with a much easier method for transporting heavy loads. The engine supplies the necessary power for moving the PowerBarrow over all types of terrain. The majority of the load rests on the rear pneumatic carriage wheels. This means that the user does not lift or carry the load, and it vastly reduces the strong potential for the wheelbarrow to get stuck in soft ground.

In addition to these benefits, contractors will save a substantial amount of time and expense on individual jobs. This is due to the PowerBarrow's design that allows workers to perform their tasks much more quickly and efficiently without suffering the normal amount of muscle and back problems from manipulating heavy loads. More importantly, the PowerBarrow provides an increased level of safety to users, particularly when they are working on sloped surfaces.

The PowerBarrow is also very reasonably priced since its main components (engine, chain drive mechanism, and centrifugal clutch) are added to a standard wheelbarrow with the three-wheel concept. Increased productivity and safety to the user far outweighs increased cost over a standard wheelbarrow, whether he or she is involved in construction, agriculture, food moving, ranching, or simple home gardening.

A. Contractors and Construction Companies

"Anybody who has moved a load of dirt or concrete with a conventional wheelbarrow knows how easy it is for a heavy load to become off-balanced and also how easy it is to strain the back and side muscles trying to stay an unbalanced load. With the PowerBarrow, this is no longer a problem......the PowerBarrow is practical, easy to use, reduces fatigue and reduces the potential of injury-related down time to our labor force."

Tom Millets, Project Manager
DMC Construction Incorporated
Pebble Beach, CA

"We use [the PowerBarrow] daily for such tasks as moving sand, dirt, concrete, rebar dowels, and other equipment.....We are expecting fewer back-related injuries due to lifting which translates into lower workers' compensation premiums. Every heavy construction company can benefit from lower insurance premiums and fewer injuries....Having this piece of equipment on site increased the productivity in getting the job done while benefiting the crew's health. The wheelbarrow is durable [and] built with heavy duty construction [materials]. Heavy loads are not a problem."

Jack Byers, General Foreman
Serrano & Cone Inc., General Engineering Contractors
San Ramon, CA

"I was completely amazed with the ease of operation of this invention [PowerBarrow 200]. If only someone had invented this ten years ago, we could have saved numerous hours in production and had a lot fewer back injuries. We have used this product for everything from concrete to equipment. Along the way, we have had everyone from landscapers to lathers ask either to use it or where to purchase one. This product has been a blessing and we don't see how we survived without it."

Todd G. Vogler, President
Vogler Construction Co.
Santa Cruz, CA

"The PowerBarrow is great for hauling concrete on a concrete slab when there are no other means of reaching that area. [The PowerBarrow] reduces the amount of manual effort which in turn can reduce injuries such as back strains. The machine wheels itself; all you have to do is steer. The PowerBarrow is also great in rough terrain. It even works better fully loaded with material."

Scott Headly, Construction Superintendent
Largo Concrete, Inc.
Campbell, CA

"[We are] a sandblasting company and we move and handle several bags of sand per day, each weighing up to 100 lbs. Since we can't get a fork lift through our building, these tasks have to be done by hand. Now that we have the PowerBarrow, we can load it with as much as 500 to 600 lbs. per load, and the PowerBarrow seems to handle this with no problem at all. There is no need for lifting or trying to balance, even with this size load, because the wheels in the rear give extra stability. The bucket is so well balanced that loading and unloading is a breeze. The PowerBarrow has mad life easier for all of us, especially our backs! We would highly recommend it to any person or company having a tight access situation and/or labor intensive tasks to perform."

Michael S. Fox, Owner
Blast It!
Soquel, CA

"We are very pleased with the performance of the PowerBarrow We have discovered new uses with the PowerBarrow everyday from hauling tools, cord, etc. around the job site to transporting concrete to hard-to-reach places. [It also assists in the] clean up [process]."

Tom L. Holcomb, CEO
U.C.I. Global Inc.
Visalia, CA

B. Farmers and Ranchers

"I have put many hard hours on the Barrow, filling it with various materials both heavy and light. It handles like a dream, empty and full, and when [you are] ready to dump, [there is] no problem, all it takes is one hand. I know the PowerBarrow will be extremely helpful in all aspects of our business from planting to [harvesting] and the loading of produce. Because of [its] unique design, we are already budgeting for the purchase of more PowerBarrow products for next year."

Leon Kochackis, VP of Operations
Nationwide Produce
Madera, CA

"I have used to PowerBarrow at my ranch for hauling everything from manure to firewood. Not only do I appreciate the benefits, my workers love that it has lessened the workload and strain for them. I have repeatedly suffered from back pain and have relied on other people to do heavy lifting for me. Not anymore. PowerBarrow has allowed me to work on my own when necessary."

Stan Sanders, President
J.H. Sanders, car leasing company
Clovis, CA

"Using the PowerBarrow, we have cut our harvesting time down one third. We are able to get in and out of the fields faster, therefore getting our product to the market faster. We are able to move irrigation hoses with the PowerBarrow instead of our trucks. We are able to go through mud, and [access] areas we [could not get to] with a tractor or truck, and harvest the whole field instead of [just parts of it]."

Richard Travers, Owner
Travers Ranch
Visalia, CA

C. Groundskeepers

"[With our 13 acres] the PowerBarrow has proven to be easy on the back, easy to start and easy to operate. It is also easy to dump the load without the barrow falling over. I especially like the stability with a heavy load and the fact that it is maneuverable."

Dave Yingling, Transportation Department
Twin Lakes Church
Aptos, CA

"At first glance, the PowerBarrow seemed a little silly. But as a woman with a bad back and who is not as young as she used to be, I quickly came to see the value of a wheelbarrow that didn't depend on my diminishing strength to push it around. I'm sure it will prove itself invaluable."

Maureen Thrash, Facilities/Grounds Director
The Coastlands Church
Aptos, CA

D. Landscapers and Tree Companies

"I cannot begin to tell you how impressed we all are with this incredible machine. In addition to saving us time and energy, it is also loads of fun to operate. The attachments are very convenient; we no longer have to rent different pieces of equipment for the many and varied tasks that we face daily. While planting trees in hard to reach places (not to mention, backbreaking miserable work), the auger has turned what used to be dangerous, time consuming and painful work into a quick and safe and almost pleasurable process. I look forward to having my insurance adjuster reduce our always-high premiums. Feel free to give my number out to all prospective buyers."

Bruce Inman, Owner
The Tree Company
Santa Cruz, CA

"We love the PowerBarrow and all those attachments. We look forward to purchasing more of the products that you might have to offer in the future. My small company our few employees most definitely enjoy the ease of operation and more than anything the amount of work we no longer have to do."

Chris Bliss, Owner
